I was fortunate to rotate here as a medical
student and I ultimately chose to complete my residency
training at this institution because I was impressed by
the internal medicine curriculum as well as the competence
and quality of the residents in the program. CCF offers
multiple opportunities unmatched by other programs including
world-class faculty dedicated to education, an emphasis
on the practice of evidence-based medicine and the opportunity
to see patients from various cultural backgrounds in addition
to viewing rare, complex and unusual cases. Moreover, residents
have the ability to participate in research with astute
leaders as well as publish articles in well-respected journals.
My decision to attend this institution is
substantiated by my current experiences here as a resident.
An enormous amount of autonomy is given to us in the decision-making
of our patients and I feel confident knowing that I will
have all the necessary tools to manage the most simple as
well as the most atypical case in the future. Additionally,
I have had the opportunity to work with educational leaders
that are enthusiastic about instruction and approachable
with questions. They challenge our thought process and question
our decisions while fostering a supportive didactic environment.
I am currently entertaining the idea of entering a fellowship
program and am looking forward to undertaking a research
project with one of the many physician leaders here at CCF.
Equally as important in any physician education is fostering
the role of practicing cost-effective medicine. Somewhere
along the line, either through formal training or practical
experience, we need to acquire a level of business knowledge
in order to operate in the complex world of healthcare that
exists today. CCF continues to be a viable institution,
in part, because our staff physicians practice evidence-based
medicine with cost-effectiveness in mind. In a world of
ever-changing medical economics it is important for young
physicians to begin thinking about the constraints of the
system. Our residency program helps to promote the application
of this critical thought process through the intellect and
business savvy of our staff physicians.
It is a privilege to train at The Cleveland
Clinic, listed as one of the top three hospitals in the
United States with 11 of its specialties ranked among the
Nation's top 10. This institution has a long history of
top-notch residency programs providing an unmatched educational
experience integrating clinical and hospital care with research
and education. The opportunity to listen to world-renowned
speakers and the ability to participate in research, with
some of the faculty on the forefront of their field, is
an element that you won't find at many other training programs.
