We conduct interviews from November through January, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Our interview day consists of a breakfast meeting with the Program Director, attendance at Morning Report and Noon Conference, interviews with 2 staff physicians, lunch with house staff, and a tour of our facilities.

Hotel accommodations are conveniently located at the Intercontinental Hotel & Conference Center located on the Cleveland Clinic campus. Applicants are asked to make their own hotel arrangements; we will reimburse you $50 towards the cost of your stay.

We begin reviewing applications through ERAS in September.

What are the key items your program looks for in an application?

What are the USMLE requirements?
We look at all scores, but prefer two-digit USMLE scores greater than 85.

What are your program’s requirements regarding letters of recommendation?
Applicants must provide a Dean’s letter, plus 3 letters of recommendation (at least 2 strong letters of recommendation from Internal Medicine faculty with whom the applicant has worked in a clinical setting).

Yes, we do accept IMGs and US-IMGs.

Do you require a candidate to be ECFMG certified at the time of application?

Yes, we sponsor H1B or J1 visas.

For DO applicants, do you require both USMLE and COMLEX scores?
We require USMLE and/or COMLEX score transcripts. Both are not required.

DO internships are preferred, but not required. The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) does not accept credit for training from osteopathic internships.

Do you offer observerships/externships?
There are very limited positions available for observerships/externships. You must apply through our Graduate Medical Education Department. To review the protocol for observers, please review http://www.clevelandclinic.org/education/gme/observer_info.asp. For more information contact Evelyn Lark at [email protected].

How do your residents perform on the ABIM medical boards?
Our 3-year average pass rate is 97%.

Do your residents enter fellowships?
Yes, approximately 80-85% of our residents continue their medical education by obtaining fellowships at prestigious institutions. 15-20% of our residents enter Primary Care or Hospitalist Medicine.
