Growing up in Wisconsin, I never imagined myself heading to Cleveland, Ohio for residency. It was difficult for me to decide where to spend the next three years of my life for residency. I chose Cleveland Clinic because it embodied all the components I was looking for in a residency program, and my experience thus far has gone above and beyond my expectations.

Cleveland Clinic is ranked one of the top hospitals in the United States due to the groundbreaking clinical and basic science research being conducted on campus. An endless number of research projects are available for residents, and faculty are very open to new research questions originated by residents. It is common for residents to be primary authors and publish several journal articles before graduating. You will not find a program more committed to research during residency than Cleveland Clinic.

The faculty and staff physicians of Cleveland Clinic are the crown jewel of the institution. Having the opportunity to work side-by-side with the top physicians in the world is truly a privilege and is necessary due to the complexity of the cases that you will find here during your residency training. The depth and breadth of pathology that exists at Cleveland Clinic allows for unlimited exposure to the standard medicine cases as well as the “zebras” that will prepare you for your future career. Furthermore, I am amazed everyday at how approachable and accessible the faculty and staff physicians are at Cleveland Clinic. The faculty sincerely cares about the well-being and success of their residents.

For me, the key ingredients for a top-tier training program in Internal Medicine is to have unlimited research potential during residency, to have access to a broad array of basic and complex cases, to learn evidence-based medicine from approachable expert faculty, and lastly to have an opportunity to develop meaningful and substantial relationships with the world leaders in various fields of medicine. Cleveland Clinic not only meets these criteria but far exceeds them. And to this end, I truly feel that training at Cleveland Clinic will help me to meet my career goals in residency and beyond.
