I am immensely satisfied with my training here at the Cleveland Clinic. It is a great place for residency training and has everything that only an outstanding program can offer. It is one of the nation’s top hospitals with a huge diversity of patients and pathologies. It has an interesting mix from the common ‘bread and butter’ to the rare ‘zebras’ in medicine. The faculty members here are well seasoned astute clinicians as well as great researchers. In fact it has been a house for some of the major trials in medicine. Everything that could be possibly done for a patient can be done here. And the most amazing part is that most of these resources are available at a resident’s disposal. The part that most amazed me was the sincerity and commitment towards resident education among the different faculty members. They are always looking forward to teaching, answering questions and taking time for residents even on the busiest of rotations. Some of them are world renowned physician researchers and it is an honor to have an opportunity to work with them directly.

Our Program Director has an open door policy and the office staff will go out of there way to help the residents out. They go extra length to ensure work hour compliance. We even have a program run cab service for tired post call residents. Each of us is assigned a staff and a senior resident mentor to help us guide through our residency training.

Resident didactics are taken very seriously and occur very regularly even in the busiest rotations like the medical intensive care unit. Our exceptional morning reports, noon conferences, grand rounds and journal clubs ensure that residents are well prepared for the medicine boards as well as help honing the clinical skills learnt on the floors.

The research opportunities are immense and you could choose to do either basic or clinical research and find all the support you need. When it comes to subspecialty training the support is phenomenal and we have an exceptional fellowship placement track record.

Our house staff association is extremely active and helps residents have a life outside their busy schedules; from arranging discounted game tickets to annual cruise and comedy shows. This ensures great camaraderie among residents. Cleveland is a great place to be, has reasonable housing and lots of activities including world famous museums and scenic islands in the vicinity. All in all, I think the Internal Medicine Residency Program here at Cleveland Clinic is one of the best in the country. I consider myself privileged to have the opportunity to train here and feel it has prepared me exceptionally well for my future career.
