I first set foot in The Cleveland Clinic as a second year medical student. I participated in a summer research project, but also had the opportunity to round with one of the Infectious Diseases staff. I was thoroughly impressed with the people I met, and knew I wanted to return after medical school. I later took advantage of fourth year electives available. I highly recommend these to anyone considering residency here.

A wonderful advantage to residency here is having everything under one roof. My experience has been that it really does become a family, in time. I can’t imagine that there are many residency programs that offer access to so many experts and resources, while maintaining a comfortable learning environment. There is a definite undercurrent of pride in most everyone who works here, which makes it an exciting place to be.

Both academically and socially, this program is a great choice. With so many options to explore within Internal Medicine, even the undecided will likely become passionate about a particular area. The large number of residency and fellowship programs provide colleagues (and friends) with a wide range of backgrounds.

Cleveland itself is a very affordable city with more than enough to do if you make the effort to look. A person can live well here on a resident’s salary. There are several great neighborhoods within fifteen minutes of main campus. Also within this radius you can find lessons in glassblowing or sushi making, plenty of theaters, nightlife, sporting events, and concerts.

In searching for a residency program, most begin to sound very similar. For those applicants who haven’t taken advantage of research or a rotation here, come back for a second look. You may just understand why we are all here.
