The affiliation with the Ohio Permanente Medical Group
(Kaiser Permanente) has added an important dimension to the residency
program. Residents are exposed to a community based general pediatric
practice with an opportunity to learn how to practice medicine in
a managed care environment. There is a unique opportunity to learn
how to manage hospital patients where patient care is overseen by
a large insurance group.
Furthermore, when the patient population is combined
with the Clinic's patient population, there is an unmatched learning
experience. The common community acquired diseases are managed together
with the complex referral patient side-by-side. In this environment,
the resident learns the subtle variations in the disease process
that sharpens the clinical skills to properly diagnose and treat
the broad range of diseases seen by today's physician.
