Better medicine through
research
All Cleveland Clinic physicians share a commitment to further
medical knowledge and to develop innovative treatment methods
through research. The Epilepsy Center's staff is involved in research
programs investigating the causes of epilepsy and in clinical
research into new anticonvulsant medications.
Our physicians have made significant, internationally
recognized advances in the study of epilepsy and human brain function,
which have led directly to new treatments. Some of the advanced
diagnostic techniques developed or refined here include:
Sophisticated
brain mapping techniques for patients with hard-to-control epilepsy
Magnetic
resonance spectroscopy, an advanced, non-invasive technique used
to localize the source of seizures before surgery
A
computerized, paperless EEG system which speeds diagnosis by allowing
physicians to analyze huge amounts of data.
