I chose to move to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1997 because of its exceptionally high academic standards and the international reputation of its Cardiology Department. In my opinion, we have the best cardiology faculty in the country. There is a genuine commitment to bedside excellence, teaching and research. Our #1 national ranking is undoubtedly coupled to the many publications emanating from the Department of Cardiology. There is also a real camaraderie between faculty and a strong desire by all to excel. Virtually all faculty see patients and interact with house staff and students regularly.
Patient care and the teaching of house staff are taken very seriously. The breadth of patient problems and the complexity of their illnesses are truly major strengths of the training program. Opportunities for research are abundant, and the track-record of participation by house staff in publishing of papers is very strong. Each resident is assigned a faculty mentor who promotes individual career goals throughout the three years of training. In addition, many of the faculty keep an open-door policy and have more informal interactions with the house staff on a regular basis. It’s a very friendly place.
I highly recommend the Cleveland Clinic Foundation to all who are seeking an exceptionally strong, rigorously academic training experience. You will not be disappointed.
