David Rolston, MD
Associate Program Director
General Internal Medicine
I came to the Cleveland Clinic in 2001,
having trained and worked in institutions in Philadelphia
and abroad. Medical student education and training of house
staff have always been an important part of every position
I have held. I can say with confidence that the opportunities
for learning at the Cleveland Clinic are incomparable. My
first impression, when I came to interview for a position
here, that it is truly an exciting place to work in, has
been reinforced many times since then. One sees a wide spectrum
of clinical conditions both in the outpatient and hospital
wards. For a trainee, it is the best possible preparation
for being able to handle patients with a simple diagnosis
as well as to meet the challenge of taking care of patients
with complex medical problems. Residents and students are
taught by superb clinicians and teachers, many established
researchers, who enjoy teaching. One is assured of a superb
educational experience.
In addition, there are ample opportunities
for research. Residents are expected to complete a research
project and are encouraged to submit articles for publication.
The opening of our medical school gives residents yet another
opportunity to teach and so develop their own teaching skills.
The learning atmosphere in the Clinic makes
for ease of consultation and interaction with other physicians.
It epitomizes the one goal of all personnel the patient
comes in contact with: that of making the patient better.
It sets a standard for medical care, provides a stimulating
educational environment and makes one perform at one’s
best. And as always, interactions with our house staff promote
the mutual personal growth and development of faculty and
trainees.
I feel privileged to be a part of the Residency
program, confident that our residents are given the very
best education and training for the practice of Medicine.
