Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute

In the Operating Room - Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery

Cleveland Clinic's Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute offers a full range of urological care for adults and children. Many of the institute's physicians have sub-specialty training in the following areas: prostate disease; kidney disease; bladder control; sexual dysfunction/impotence; male infertility; testicular , bladder and prostate cancer; chronic urinary tract infections and obstructions; and pediatric urology.

These subspecializations enable our physicians to develop innovative procedures and gain valuable experience in surgical techniques like robotic prostatectomy, cryoablation, and nephrectomy -- that translate into positive results for our patients.

In Memoriam:
Andrew Novick, MD, Renowned Urologist, Institute Chairman

Andrew Novick, MD, Chairman of the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute, passed away Oct. 18 from complications of lymphoma.

“He will be forever remembered as an outstanding physician with an unwavering commitment to excellence for his patients,” Toby Cosgrove, MD, CEO and President, wrote in a letter to employees. “He was a dedicated friend, mentor and advisor to us all.”

Since joining the Cleveland Clinic staff in 1977, Dr. Novick’s work advanced the field of urology. He pioneered nephron sparing surgery (partial nephrectomy) for the treatment of kidney cancer and also extracorporeal or “bench” kidney surgery for the repair of complex kidney disorders. Doctors in the Institute, currently the largest and most subspecialized urology program in the world, have performed more than 3,000 open partial nephrectomies, most of which were performed by Dr. Novick, who was appointed chairman in 1985.

Dr. Novick held many leadership positions in urological and surgical societies, and received many awards for his contributions. Most recently he was honored with the Ramon Guiteras Award, the American Urological Association’s highest honor.

“We feel a tremendous loss and will be forever grateful for his accomplishments and contributions to clinical excellence,” says Dr. Cosgrove. He invites everyone at Cleveland Clinic to remember Dr. Novick and to honor his legacy: “His tremendous contributions to the field of urology and to Cleveland Clinic will be with us forever.”
