Dr. Petterson has authored or coauthored numerous articles and papers on cardiovascular disease, covering topics such as heart and lung transplantation, congenital heart disease, endocarditis, aortic and mitral valve surgery, and atrial fibrillation. Dr. Pettersson is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Association for Thoracic Surgery, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, and European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is an honorary member of Finnish Surgical Society, Lithuanian Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery, European Congenital Heart Surgeons Club, Romanian Academy of Science, and Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences. Dr. Pettersson was born, raised and trained in Sweden. He became a professor at The State University Hospital in Copenhagen in 1990 to upgrade Danish Cardiothoracic Surgery and to start a Heart and Lung Transplantation program. He has a great interest in performing arts and is a passionate outdoorsman who enjoys running, skiing, horseback riding and hunting.
