The highest rating in the Michelen Guide is three stars. The highest rating in the Zagat survey is three stars. The highest rating by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) is also three stars – and Cleveland Clinic's Cardiac Surgery progarm earned it!
STS has established a comprehensive rating system to compare the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the county. Looking at data from July 2010 to June 2011, the Society awarded Cleveland Clinic it's highest rating, the coveted three stars. Fewer than 15 percent of the heart programs in the nation ever achieve this level in the Society's survey.
What makes the Cleveland Clinic program special? In two words: volume and complexity. Cleveland Clinic continues to treat more of the most difficult cases than any comparable progrm. Analysis of the July 2010 – June 2011 STS data shows how Cleveland Clinic surpasses the national norms, performing 551 coronary artery bypass grafts (255% higher than national average), 2,141 valve surgeries (3,095% higher than national average) and 767 combination valve/CABG surgeries (2,031% higher
than national average).
