Ashok Agarwal, PhD, HCLD, is the Director of the Clinical Andrology Laboratory and Reproductive Tissue Bank, and the Director of Research at the Reproductive Research Center. He holds these positions at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he is a Professor at the Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and, since 1993, Senior Staff in the Glickman Urological Institute, Departments of Obstetrics-Gynecology, Anatomic Pathology, and Immunology.

Dr. Agarwal received his Ph.D. in 1983 from Banaras Hindu University, India. He did his post-doctorate training in Reproductive Biology under a fellowship from The Rockefeller Foundation at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was an Instructor in Surgery and then an Assistant Professor of Urology at Harvard Medical School from 1988 to 1993. Dr. Agarwal is a board certified Clinical Laboratory Director in Andrology by the American Board of Bioanalysis.

Dr. Agarwal has published over 350 scientific papers and review articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, authored 30 book chapters, and presented over 630 papers at both national and international scientific meetings. He is a member and office bearer of several professional societies including: American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American Society of Andrology, American Urological Association, Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, Society for the Study of Male Reproduction and Urology, and Society for Basic Urologic Research. Dr. Agarwal is on the Editorial Board of the Andrologia, Annals of Saudi Medicine, Asian Journal of Andrology, Clinics, Fertility and Sterility, Human Fertility, Indian Journal of Experimental Biology, International Brazilian Journal of Urology, International Journal of Fertility and Sterility, Journal of Clinical Embryology, National Journal of Andrology, Reproductive Biomedicine Online, Reproductive Biology & Endocrinology and Reproductive Sciences Journal. He is also an ad hoc reviewer for over 50 journals.

Dr. Agarwal is active in basic and clinical research and his laboratory has trained more than 100 basic scientists and clinical researchers from the United States and abroad. In addition over 100 medical, undergraduate, high school students, Observers and research volunteers have worked in his laboratory. Dr. Agarwal has been invited as a guest speaker to over 20 countries for important international meetings. He has directed more than a dozen Andrology Laboratory and ART Workshops in recent years. Over 60 candidates have received hands on training in ART and Andrology in his center.

Dr. Agarwal is the recipient of 65 research grants. His current research interests include the role of molecular markers (oxidative stress, DNA integrity, and apoptosis) in the pathophysiology of male and female reproduction, cryopreservation of sperm in patients with cancer, epididymal physiology, and pathophysiology of sexual dysfunction.
