The Cleveland Clinic

The Cleveland Clinic is dedicated to providing patients with excellence in all aspects of their care. One of the world’s first group practices, the Cleveland Clinic was formed in 1921 when four Cleveland physicians came together and set forth their professional standards: Better care of the sick, investigation of their problems, and further education of those who serve. Every year since 1990, The Cleveland Clinic has been designated by U.S. News & World Report as one of only ten hospitals in the United States considered "The Best of the Best".

The second largest medical group practice in the world and the largest hospital in Ohio with over 6.3 million square feet of campus building space, the Cleveland Clinic includes the 12-story state-of-the-art Crile Building (where nearly 73,000 outpatient visits are recorded each month), a 1000 staffed-bed hospital (including Children’s Hospital), the Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation, the Lerner Research Institute, and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. This integration of clinical and hospital care with research and education in a private, not-for-profit group practice distinguishes the Cleveland Clinic in American medicine. The Cleveland Clinic annually records more than 2.8 million outpatient visits and 55,000 hospital admissions. Among them are patients from all 50 states and 100 foreign countries. More than 1700 full-time physicians and scientists and 833 residents/fellows provide patient care in 120 specialties and subspecialties. There are more than 450 medical students from more than 70 medical schools, who are doing their clinical rotation at The Cleveland Clinic, which is in addition to 390 allied health students. Cleveland Clinic Health System is one of the largest health care providers in Ohio and includes 9 community hospitals, 3 affiliate hospitals, and 12 family health centers in the Cleveland area as well as medical facilities in Naples and Weston, Florida - Cleveland Clinic Florida. The Lerner Research Institute oversees more than 1,500 clinical and basic research activities conducted by more than 800 research scientists, fellows and students in more than 127 laboratories. Our Research Institute is the fifth largest in the country receiving over $150 million from Federal agencies, non-Federal societies, and endowment funds. More than two-thirds of that amount is received from external grants and contracts, a dramatic endorsement by others of the quality of Cleveland Clinic research.

The founding fathers' dedication to training the next generation of physicians continues today. The Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation has one of the largest freestanding medical education programs in the country and has made significant contributions to the dissemination of medical knowledge.
