CLINICAL STUDIES AND RESEARCH
Promoting the mobility and transportation of the disabled and wheelchair users is the main focus of the research efforts in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. There are projects completed and in progress demonstrating the feasibility and application of new concepts in wheelchair securements and occupant restraints with the objective of general access to independent mobility by the wheelchair-using public. These projects, supported by the National Institutes of Health and National Research Council are collaborative efforts with disabled client organizations, transit providers and manufactures of vehicles and wheelchair securements. Other projects funded by industrial collaborators are also completed or in progress.
