Physicians in the Department of Pediatric
Critical Care Medicine provide diagnosis and management of
neonates, infants, children and adolescents with the most
serious, complex medical problems.
Children with shock, impending respiratory failure,
status epilepticus, status asthmaticus, severe congenital
heart disease, congestive heart failure, liver or renal failure,
toxic ingestion, or severe infection are candidates for referral.
The critical care physician can coordinate
air or ground transportation to The Children's Hospital at
The Cleveland Clinic. Patients are cared for in the Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where they can be closely monitored
by pediatric critical care physicians and nurses.
