The Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery offers
diagnosis and surgical management for problems of the central nervous
system in patients from newborn to age 21. Members of the section
have particular expertise in surgical intervention for brain tumors;
epilepsy; congenital problems, including cerebral palsy; and vascular
problems such as arteriovenous malformations, hydrocephalus and
myelomeningocele.
Cleveland Clinic physicians have developed a number
of complex, technology-intensive neurosurgical procedures for adults,
including certain specialized procedures for epilepsy, dorsal rhizotomy
for spasticity in cerebral palsy, radiosurgery for brain tumors
and arteriovenous malformation, and endoscopic neurosurgery for
treatment of hydrocephalus. Pediatric Radiology and Neurosurgery
frequently collaborate in the care of patients to provide imaging,
PET or interventional radiology as needed. Subspecialty clinics
for patients with brain tumors and cerebral palsy are held on a
regular basis.
