Neurology and Epilepsy

When you select our service, you can be assured that you have chosen one of the top eight pediatric neurology centers in the country. Our team, which includes both board-certified pediatricians in Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology, is recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise.

As a teaching hospital, we are up-to-date on the latest diagnostic tests and treatments available, while continuing to research more effective treatments for a wide range of pediatric neurological problems. We also have one of the few accredited residency training programs in Pediatric Neurology.

Every member of our team, which includes nurses with special training, child life specialists, and social workers, is dedicated to providing high-quality care that meets each patient's unique medical, emotional, and psychological needs. Although we are proud of being one of the country's most respected pediatric neurology services, we believe that providing the best care goes beyond state-of-the-art equipment and the latest techniques. It also means providing that care with compassion. We understand your concerns, we care, and we are here to help. Parents and other family members play an important role in a child's health care. Please feel free to ask questions and let us know how we can best serve your needs.

About Our Program
The Pediatric Neurology Service offers comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for the complete range of neurological problems in children. Our physicians have achieved national prominence in the treatment of Tourette's syndrome, epilepsy, learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder, autism, sleep disorders, headaches, brain tumors, neurofibromatosis, cerebral palsy, and spasticity. In addition, we provide treatment for the neurological complications of diseases and conditions such as mental retardation, neuromuscular disorders, myelomeningocele and hydrocephalus, birth defects, and metabolic disorders. Members of our team include pediatric experts in epilepsy, neurology, neuro-oncology, psychiatry, learning disorders, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, orthotics, including specialized seating equipment, and neuropediatric research. By bringing together a team of highly trained specialists, we can determine the most appropriate intervention and develop the best possible treatment program for your child. An essential member of our extended team is your child's pediatrician, family physician, or neurologists, with whom we consult in developing treatment and on-going care plans for your child.

If Your Child Needs Surgery
A team of highly trained pediatric neurosurgeons, pediatric anesthesiologists, and pediatric intensivists will care for your child. Our surgeons have pioneered many new techniques, including brain mapping for epilepsy using surgically implanted subdural electrodes, intraspinal baclofen for spasticity, and third ventribulostomy for hydrocephalus. Our expertly trained pediatric anesthesiologists use the newest delivery systems, which reduce the level of anesthesia required and lessen post-operative discomfort.

Better Medicine Through Research
To better understand and improve the treatment of pediatric neurological problems, our staff participate in clinical research projects. Through these efforts, we continue to refine the latest techniques and technology, and to discover new medications for the treatment of these problems.
