ANCHOR LEAD                                           It’s one of the easiest and cheapest forms of exercise.  But jogging can take its toll on the joints and muscles in your body.  Cleveland Clinic physical therapists have developed a unique rehab program that helps get joggers back on course.

                                                                        Mike Jacobson has the story.

Cleveland Clinic                                             “It looks at their strength, their flexibility, their core strength.  And then it takes it to the extent of having them run onto a treadmill and videotaping their running mechanics to see if there is anything abnormal or asymmetrical about the way that they run.” (:15)

Preproduction                                                   BECAUSE THAT CAN LEAD TO INJURY.  RECENT FINDINGS IN THE BRITISH JOURNAL OF SPORTS MEDICINE SHOW A RUNNER HAS UP TO AN 80 PERCENT RISK OF A LEG INJURY...WITH KNEE INJURIES BEING THE MOST COMMON.  AND THE STUDY FOUND COMBINING RUNNING WITH CYCLING OR AEROBICS CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF THIGH AND HAMSTRING INJURIES.

Cleveland Clinic                                             “There has to be a reason behind why an injury keeps coming back.  And that’s what our program looks at is really to find that reason.” (:07)

Anchor Tag                                                    It’s important to note that there is no hard and fast rule on a specific time when a person can expect to be fully recovered from an injury.  Sports health experts say every body is different.  So it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to recover from an injury with the help of a rehab program.
