We're No. 1 in Ohio in cancer care, but our work knows no boundaries.
Our state-of-the-art cancer care, rated the best in the state by U.S. News & World Report, includes treatments available nowhere else in Ohio. The numbers back up the ranking: 33 physicians recognized as America's Top Doctors, 600 pioneering cancer studies published, and more than 350 clinical trials to test and improve the latest medical breakthroughs for patients in need.

No one has topped us in heart care since 1994.
Cleveland Clinic has been ranked No. 1 in the nation in cardiac care 15 years straight by U.S. News & World Report. But we do much more than just hearts, so we're also ranked No. 4 as an overall hospital. Twelve of our programs were listed among the top 10 in the country, with seven in the top 3 and three — digestive disorders, urology and rheumatology — in the top 2.

Where ‘too sick to travel’ need not apply.
In the past, all that stood between critically ill patients and care was the difficult trip here. That's why we are one of the few hospitals to staff our flights with physicians and nurses — so we can deliver world class care in the air. We will do 5,000 transports this year alone, with 170 of those via jet. In the past we've had transports from 28 states and eight countries around the world.

Heart valve surgery gets a robotic helping hand.
With the aid of robotic arms that can do precision work through incisions smaller than 1 inch, our surgeons reduced by half the average length of a patient's hospital stay after heart valve surgery in 2008. More than 30 percent of patients were back home in less than three days. Cleveland Clinic has performed more of these robotic-assisted valve surgeries than any other major academic hospital.

When it comes to brain tumors, we'll keep your options open.
Our surgeons reach tumors others would consider inoperable or too risky to treat. Advanced surgical navigation and planning, awake techniques and real-time imaging all make more brain tumors treatable. We offer nonsurgical options, too. In 2008, we were the first in the world to use a new laser system that ‘cooks' brain tumors and spares healthy brain tissue. And, since 1997, our Gamma Knife Center has treated more than 2,600 patients and trained more than 400 physicians and physicists.

We can save kidneys while we save lives.
Our surgeons pioneered partial nephrectomy surgery for renal tumors, which removes the cancerous portion of a kidney while preserving the healthy tissue. We’ve performed more than 4,000 of these surgeries — including nearly 1,000 using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques. We've done more of these delicate surgeries than any center in the world.

Take care of your health now, and start a family later.
Women with ovarian cancer can still grow their families after treatment. Using a new rapid-freezing technique, cancer patients can store eggs to preserve future fertility before undergoing radiation or chemotherapy. The first baby from an egg preserved in this way was born this summer — bringing joy to one mother and hope to many more.

When it comes to EMR technology, we're ahead of the curve.
We've been using electronic medical records (EMRs) to integrate all aspects of patient care since 2002. Working from a patient's complete health history, physicians review lab work and tests, safeguard against drug interactions or allergies, and much more. Using their own secure online personal health record — tied directly to the EMR used by their doctors — patients can check test results, renew prescriptions and more easily manage chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Safety, security and efficiency are just a click away.

It takes more than X-rays to mark the spot.
Cleveland Clinic's Epilepsy Center uses advanced imaging technology that measures magnetic fields to pinpoint the source of seizures in the brain. Only a handful of institutions worldwide use this technology, and we've tested more than 50 patients with it. That's just one part of our work. In 2008, doctors at the Epilepsy Center treated 6,804 patients, from infants to adults, and performed 315 surgeries.

Our surgeons make precision incisions.
Giving minimally invasive a whole new meaning, single-port surgery through the belly button leads to fewer scars, less pain and less time in recovery. Our surgeons have performed more than 150 of these surgeries for kidney, prostate and bladder cancer and kidney donation.
