He is leading an organization with a vibrant research and development program and has overseen the building of one of the largest oncology pipelines in the industry. Novartis' introduction of Gleevec in 2001 marked the entry of the first tyrosine kinase inhibitor and set the standard for the prototypical targeted cancer therapy. Gleevec is one of the Top 10 biologic drugs with annual revenues of $3.7 billion.
