Richard Parker, MD
Richard Parker, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Interim Center Director for Sports Health and a Professor of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
He is from Youngsown, Ohio and a graduate of Walsh College in Canton, Ohio. He earned his MD from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic residency at The Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Parker then continued his training with subspecialization in sports medicine through a Clinical Research Fellowship in sports medicine, arthroscopy, knee and shoulder surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to joining the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in 1993, Dr. Parker acted as Head of the Section of Sports Medicine at The Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
He has authored more than 120 peer reviewed articles and is involved in many academic sports societies. He participates in numerous committees including the AOSSM Education and Program Committees, the AANA By-Laws Committee and, formerly, the ACSM Program (Abstract) Committee. He is a member of both national and international professional societies including that of AAOS, AOA, Herodicus, ABJS, ISAKOS, ESKA, and the Mid-American Orthopaedic Society. His current research program is focused on meniscal transplantation of the knee, PCL of the knee, and the MOON ACL registry.
Currently, Dr. Parker serves as the Head Team Physician for the Cleveland Cavaliers and currently is the President of the NBA Physician Society.
He lives in the Chagrin Falls area with his wife Jana, and enjoys biking, golfing and swimming in his free time.
