Stephen Kappes
Deputy Director, Central Intelligence Agency

Mr. Stephen R. Kappes was sworn in as Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency on July 24, 2006. He is a career CIA officer, having served most recently as Deputy Director for Operations and Associate Deputy Director for Operations from 2002 to 2004. Mr. Kappes retired from Federal service and entered the private sector in 2005. He joined ArmorGroup International in April 2005 and was the Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors from November 2005 to June 2006. Mr. Kappes joined the Agency in January 1981 after having served as a Marine Corps officer since 1976. Mr. Kappes holds a Bachelor of Science degree in premedicine from Ohio University and a Master of Science degree in pathology from Ohio State University.
