Heart Failure and Transplantation Research A diagnosis of heart failure is often progressive and may worsen over time. It can be caused by many conditions that damage or overwork the heart muscle. Some of these conditions are CAD, high blood pressure, valve disease, heart defects at birth, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. The Department of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation is actively involved in research studies evaluating new medications and therapies to try and reduce mortality, improve morbidity and improve overall symptoms or outcomes. If you have been diagnosed with heart failure, and would like to participate in one of our clinical trials, please call one of our screening nurses for more information. They can discuss with you in more detail what studies you may be eligible for.
