The
following is a list of Heart Center clinical trials looking for volunteers:
STAMPEDE: Surgical Therapy and Medications Potentially Eradicate Diabetes Efficiently
Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity
The Cleveland Clinic Bariatric and Metabolic Institute and The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism are seeking volunteers to participate in a clinical research study focusing on subjects with Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity.
Principal Investigators are Drs. Philip Schauer, Sangeeta Kashyap and Deepak Bhatt.
The STAMPEDE trial is a randomized study that will compare the effectiveness of advanced medical therapy alone versus bariatric surgery and therapy combined, for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes during a 5 year study period.
To be eligible for participation in the STAMPEDE trial:
- 20-60 years old
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Blood test showing elevated sugar levels
- Mild to Moderate obesity based on weight and height

Do You Have High Cholesterol?
If so, you may qualify for a medical research study to test the effects of cholesterol medications on cardiac risk indicators. If you participate in the study, you will receive:
- Study Medication for 12 weeks at no cost
- Study Related Clinical Visits
- Lab Work

Do you have pain in your legs when you walk?
Do you have blockages in the arteries of your legs?
If you are between 40 and 80 years old and suffer from blocked leg arteries, you may be eligible to participate in a new research study. The research study is being performed in the Vascular Medicine Section of the Department of Cardiovascular medicine at The Cleveland Clinic.

Department of Vascular Medicine is currently conducting clinical trials for the following conditions:
- Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD): Patients who have leg pain when walking due to poor circulation
- Heart attack, stroke, poor circulation to the legs or kidneys, diabetes, insulin resistance / metabolic syndrome
- Blood clots in the legs or lungs
