KEEP KIDS OUT OF TROUBLE WITH SUMMER ACTIVITIES

Many children experiment with tobacco during times when they are bored or looking for a new thrill. Summer vacation can leave kids at-risk for this type of behavior as they struggle with empty hours for weeks on end. What can you do? You can help your kids find activities they enjoy to fill up their spare time.

Here are some ideas you can try:

  • Check your local YMCA/YWCA for summer programs.
  • Call the local parks and recreation department for listings of summer programs in your city.
  • Visit a local park for a picnic and some family fun time.
  • Go to the local library. Check out books and/or websites that interest your child.
  • Read your local newspaper’s “Weekend” section for local activities (many are free or low cost).
  • Go online for activity or craft ideas. You can start with these two excellent sites: www.familyfun.com or www.kidsdomain.com.
