Your Child is in Word of Mouth!
Did you know that your child is currently participating in the Word of Mouth: Youth Tobacco Prevention Program in their classroom?
Word of Mouth is a comprehensive tobacco prevention program that aims to prevent children and adolescents from using tobacco and becoming addicted to nicotine.
A study was performed by the American Lung Association® of Ohio and the Cleveland Clinic to evaluate the program’s effect on
tobacco use; intention to use tobacco; knowledge about tobacco and its health effects; refusal skills and attitudes towards tobacco.
This study showed that students who participated in the Word of Mouth program reported stronger pro non-smoking attitudes across time than students who did not participate in Word of Mouth.
Word of Mouth follows guidelines for effective prevention programs that have been established by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute, and current research.
The Word of Mouth school-based program, which consists of four lessons each for grades four through eight, is available in both a traditional classroom and Web-based format.
