Investing in Our Community
Known to the world as a leader among not-for-profit academic medical centers, Cleveland Clinic also makes a substantial economic impact on Cleveland and the eight counties it serves in Northeastern Ohio – more than $2.5 billion total benefit each year. As an independent consultant observed, “No other organization has a larger impact on the Greater Cleveland eight-county economy.”
Cleveland Clinic also is strongly committed to the health and well-being of the community. Along with its system of community hospitals, Cleveland Clinic provides almost $350 million in benefits to the community each year. This amount includes $92 million in charity care for the sick (Cleveland Clinic was noted by a local newspaper as having one of the most generous charity care eligibility programs of any Northeastern Ohio hospital), substantial investments made through charitable contributions and community outreach programs, and free screening and patient education forums.
Clearly, a financial investment in Cleveland Clinic is an investment in the future of Northeastern Ohio.
Cleveland Clinic began as a research institution. Our discoveries today are the new therapies, the new drugs and new treatments for patients five, ten, fifteen years from now. Without the research that’s being done in these laboratories, there’d be no real advances.”- Paul DiCorleto, Ph.D.
