Foslers Receive Crile Award
Celebrating a Legacy of Supporting Heart Care
The Partners in Philanthropy Celebration honored long-time donors Marjorie and Howard Fosler with the George W. Crile, Sr. Award. As members of the PYRAMID Legacy Society, they have helped secure Cleveland Clinic’s future by establishing charitable gift annuities benefiting heart care. Besides supporting the Heart and Vascular Institute, they have been faithful, annual donors to Cleveland Clinic, helping fund the areas of greatest need and various research projects for more than 20 years. This generous husband and wife duo say they also are interested in supporting diabetes research and arthritis pain management.
Mr. Fosler began coming to Cleveland Clinic in the early 1950s, and when he married Marjorie in 1962, she too began visiting Cleveland Clinic for her annual checkups.
The Foslers' loyalty to Cleveland Clinic is as steadfast as their marriage, with a love sparked by fireworks. They were introduced at a Cleveland Indians game moments after Tito Francona hit a home run and stadium fireworks exploded in celebration. The couple took it as a sign that they were meant to be together, wed a year later and have been married 44 years. The Sarasota, Fla., residents now spend their days with friends and taking relaxing trips on their pontoon boat at their summer home in Willard, Ohio.
Committed to Staying Healthy
After spending 30 years at the Wyatt Company, an actuarial firm, doing work that involved taking care of employees and their health benefits, Mr. Fosler and his wife want to continue helping others by supporting work being done at Cleveland Clinic.
“It’s no surprise that we looked to Cleveland Clinic to help us stay healthy as well as helping others to stay healthy with our gifts,” Mrs. Fosler says.
Longstanding Relationships
In presenting their award, Richard Lang, M.D., M.P.H., Chairman, Department of General Internal Medicine, said, “I can tell you that one of the privileges of being an internist is that I get to know people and to see them over a long time span, and I’ve had that privilege with the Foslers.”
As the Foslers accepted their award, Mr. Fosler described his appreciation for the expert care he and his wife receive.
“Over the years, we have formed a long relationship with Cleveland Clinic and staff members,” he said. “I’ve received powerful solutions for hearing problems at Cleveland Clinic. I have been checked annually by Cleveland Clinic cardiologists and I feel just great. We want to support these doctors and also Cleveland Clinic,” Mr. Fosler said.
