Hillcrest Hospital Breaks Ground on Major Campus Expansion Plan, Unveils Significant Gift
Hillcrest Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic hospital, broke ground today for its $163 million campus expansion and renovation and announced an anonymous $5 million donation, which is the largest gift given in the hospital’s history.
"We are very excited and appreciative of this generous donation for our campus development project which will continue to allow us to provide the highest level of care possible to the communities Hillcrest Hospital serves," said Fred DeGrandis, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals.
"This significant gift is also another testament to the medical expertise the Hillcrest staff brings to all who entrust them with their care and validates the largest investment Cleveland Clinic has made in one of its community hospitals," Mr. DeGrandis says.
The project, Expanding Excellence... Building Tomorrow’s Healthcare Today, was launched in January 2007. By mid-2010 the campus expansion will be completed and include:
Development of an all private room Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and aesthetic enhancements to the Obstetrics Unit.
An expansion and re-design of the hospital’s Emergency Department and Level II Trauma Center, which will double in size to accommodate more than 60,000 adult and pediatric visits.
A new patient bed tower, including the addition of 72 new private rooms.
Expanded and redesigned operating rooms and surgical services doubling in size.
Renovations and cosmetic improvements to the hospital’s main bed tower.
Expanded parking
"Today we celebrate more than the commencement of a construction project – we celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in Hillcrest Hospital’s 40-year history," said Jeffrey Leimgruber, President, Hillcrest Hospital.
"This investment in Hillcrest Hospital means better care for our patients, helps us continue to attract the best medical professionals and will expand the boundaries of medical miracles right here in our community," Mr. Leimgruber says.
Hillcrest Hospital has experienced consistent increases in hospital admissions and emergency room visits over the last 10 years. The planned expansion strongly positions the hospital to meet the ever-evolving needs of the four-county regions it serves. Westlake Reed Leskosky, from Cleveland, is the architect for the project.
Founded in 1968, Hillcrest Hospital is a 454-bed hospital and features a Level II trauma center including the only community east side hospital with a separate pediatric emergency department, and comprehensive maternity and neonatal care. The full-service facility also provides open-heart surgery, outpatient surgery, an oncology center with medical, gynecology/oncology and radiation therapy services, a digestive health center, state-of-the-art radiology services and advanced imaging services including the only 64-slice CT scanner on the east side. Hillcrest Hospital has been named 10 times as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals and a 100 Top Hospital for its cardiovascular services by Thomson.
