A steel drum band set a festive tone for a garden reception at the Tampa home of Campaign Honorary Chairs Eddie and Candy DeBartolo on Oct. 27. Mr. and Mrs. DeBartolo hosted 85 friends, family and Cleveland Clinic supporters for a unique introduction to Today's Innovations, Tomorrow's Healthcare: Campaign for Cleveland Clinic.
Cleveland Clinic friends in attendance included Randy and Janice LaGasse, who traveled from Nashville, Bing Kearney and guest Tonya Nuhfer, Carl Lindell, Jr., Ed and Becky Kobel, Leon and Diane Mezrah, Charles and Margarete Walton, Campaign Executive Chair Robert Tomsich, Campaign Vice Chairs Maryellen and Umberto P. Fedeli, Jr., and DeBartolo family members, including daughters Nikki DeBartolo-Heldfond and Lisa DeBartolo, a Campaign Vice Chair. Guests had an opportunity to talk with Cleveland Clinic Digestive Disease Center physicians and colorectal cancer researchers, including Campaign Medical Chair Victor Fazio, M.D., James Church, M.D., Graham Casey, Ph.D., Matt Kalady, M.D., Daniel Geisler, M.D., as well as CEO and President Delos M. Cosgrove, M.D. Also in attendance: Lois Church, Carolyn Fazio, Skyler Kalady, M.D., a Cleveland Clinic pediatrician, and Campaign Executive Chair Anita Cosgrove, Esq.
At the reception, Mr. DeBartolo recounted his personal connections to Cleveland Clinic. He presented a $2 million check to Dr. Fazio and vowed to continue his family's generous support of colorectal cancer research and education within the Cleveland Clinic Department of Colorectal Surgery. Dr. Fazio and Dr. Church in turn expressed their appreciation of the family's partnership. "The DeBartolo name is synonymous with excellence," Dr. Fazio said.
