Steve and Nancy Calabrese Give $4.6 Million to Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital

Steve and Nancy Calabrese pledged $4.6 million to Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital to develop a Leadership Chair for Excellence in Pediatric Care, Research and Education.

The chair will first be held by Robert Wyllie, M.D., Chairman of the Children's Hospital, who says, "We are honored to receive this generous gift from Steve and Nancy Calabrese. Their gift will provide financial support for clinical programs and research efforts at the Children's Hospital."

Honoring Fathers
The contribution helps future generations of children and is a tribute to the couple's fathers, Anthony J. Calabrese and Anthony F. Fortunato.

Helping the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital is dear to our hearts. Our fathers provided a great foundation for our families and we wanted to honor them by giving back to other families," says Mr. Calabrese, managing partner of Calabrese Racek and Markos (CRM), a number of commercial construction and real estate companies in Cleveland and Tampa, Fla.

"We've always felt it was important to support children. We feel blessed for this opportunity to give this gift for such a wonderful cause," says Mrs. Calabrese, a partner of Fabec Interiors, an interior design company located in Bonita Springs, Fla., where she, her husband and two children reside. They also live in Cleveland.

Endowed Chairs
The endowed chair is intended to provide a permanent method of funding to support the Children's Hospital.

Medical reimbursement for children's health care allows hospitals to provide care of individual infants and children, but most children must rely on philanthropic support for expanded clinical and research programs.

Endowed chairs often help Cleveland Clinic recruit and retain talented physicians, allowing chair holders the freedom to dedicate more time and resources to research and training activities. This funding can also accelerate current research projects and support new programs at the chair holder's discretion.
