Sharon and Tom Coughlin Host California Guests

Frank Rudy announces cancer research gift at Palm Springs event.

A pink desert sky rimmed by mocha mountains inspired a relaxed air for Innovations in Healthcare, an exclusive opportunity for the Palm Springs community to become acquainted with Cleveland Clinic, on February 20. The Reserve Club in Indian Wells, Calif., offered the picturesque setting for an evening of casual conversation, special presentations and a surprise gift announcement from Taussig Cancer Center supporter Frank Rudy. Many thanks to Sharon and Tom Coughlin for hosting this very special evening.

The diverse gathering drew nearly 100 local residents and Midwest snowbirds, including renowned community supporters such as Dr. Raymond and Hannah Schneider, Frank Gaeta, and Sidney and Florence Bogin, and business leaders such as Doris and Jay Christopher, Barry Ralph, and Earl Anderson and wife Jane.

Frank Rudy surprised the group when he presented a $1 million gift to Taussig Cancer Center Chairman Derek Raghavan, M.D., Ph.D., for pioneering translational cancer research. Dr. Raghavan expressed his thanks to Frank and Margie Rudy for their family's ongoing support and admirable philanthropic example. Impressed by what they heard at the event, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy later increased their gift to $1.5 million.

Campaign Executive Chair Anita Cosgrove, Esq, opened the program with a Cleveland Clinic overview. Dr. Raghavan shared recent cancer treatment innovations and Brian P. Griffin, M.D., Director, Cardiovascular Disease Training Program, emphasized the importance of preventive medicine practices.

Attendees enjoyed learning about Cleveland Clinic's leading specialty care and future plans. They had a chance to hear not only from featured speakers, but also from Cleveland Clinic Campaign Executive Board members, trustees and friends in attendance, including Jack and Sherry Kahl, Lois Horvitz, Victoria Donald, and Stanley and Elaine Pace.

"We were impressed by the physicians' level of professionalism. We walked away reaffirming that Cleveland Clinic is on the cutting edge," says event attendee Florence Bogin of Palm Desert, Calif.
