John and Colleen Lance's Giving to Cleveland Clinic Reaches $1 Million

Cleveland Clinic announced on March 15 it received an additional gift of $500,000 from John and Colleen Lance, of Palm Beach, Fla., and Rocky River, Ohio, for the Florida campus' education and fellowship program. The donation was received as part of Today's Innovations, Tomorrow's Healthcare: Campaign for Cleveland Clinic. The announcement was made at Healthy U., a Cleveland Clinic medical education event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

"Today, I know that my grandfather is smiling as my wife Colleen and I confirm our commitment of $1 million to Cleveland Clinic. We celebrate being a part of the future of this institution," John Lance said. "God blessed us to be people who have the opportunity to make a difference in this world by putting our financial resources to work for what we believe in.  For us, philanthropy is about making it possible for wonderful things to happen and sustaining what we believe in."

"There are so many at Cleveland Clinic, who with God's help and their vast skills, have saved the lives of our entire family," Colleen Lance added. "We know that we would never get around to thanking everyone, so we humbly contribute this gift in thanks to Cleveland Clinic. God bless the doctors, and God bless Cleveland Clinic."

Meeting Florida Needs
The Lances' previous giving has supported Cleveland Clinic Florida's residency and cardiovascular imaging programs as well as the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for the Neuromuscular, Skeletal and Spine Institute.

"Cleveland Clinic in Florida is a top-tier teaching facility where we are training the next generation of doctors. A gift like this from John and Colleen Lance directly impacts patients because it allows us to continue our education programs," said Bernardo Fernandez, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland Clinic's operations in Florida. "Florida is facing a healthcare crisis because the rising cost of malpractice insurance is discouraging physicians from practicing here. Our goal is for patients to receive the care they deserve in their own community."
