Choosing
Cleveland Clinic for the Medical Informatics Fellowship
Cleveland Clinic Medical Informatics fellowship is
one of the very few programs in US which are specifically tailored
for physicians planning to sub specialize in medical
informatics:
1. The curriculum is focused on clinical
application and research rather than basic informatics.
2. The fellowship is fully funded and provides a hands-on
experience at an enterprise level in one of the largest
integrated delivery networks in the region.
3. The program is designed to provide maximum flexibility
( see Courses). Once the fellow chooses a
research project , rest of the program is tailored to his/ her
research interests ( Electronic Health Records, clinical data
mining, online education, operational/management etc.)
4. Time is reserved for fellow to continue his/her clinical
experience through inpatient or outpatient experiences at Cleveland
Clinic.
A glance at some of
the initiatives written below, may provide an overview
of what the Cleveland Clinic has to offer.
e-Cleveland Clinic is a web-based extension of the
Clinic’s 80-year role as one of America's
most respected referral institutions, providing specialist
consultations and second opinions using the Internet for patients
with life-threatening and life-altering diagnoses.
COMET ( Center for
Online Medical Education and Training) This is link is available
only on through the CCF Intranet. COMET responsible for the
strategic development of web based training to supplement medical
education of physicians, house staff, medical students and nursing
personnel, as well as training of employees on compliance related
issues.
COMET recently
completed a successful Online Interactive HIPAA
training at Cleveland Clinic from conception to completion within
three Months. The project was conceived in November 2002 and
completed in January 2003. This included building the learning
Management System (LMS), identifying trainees and assigning roles,
identifying the content and converting it for online delivery and
getting the system tested and the content reviewed. This project
highlights what can be achieved by close cooperation of online
learning experts, content experts, compliance teams, and information
technology personnel.
COMET is presently also involved in designing the distance
learning curriculum for Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of
Medicine.

Ambulatory Electronic
Medical Records Quality Initiatives Projects:
The Cleveland Clinic
started rolling epic electronic medical records in 2000. Now most of the Cleveland Clinic's main campus and the
satellite centers have reached the consolidation phase. This has
provided us with a unique opportunity to map this huge
ambulatory patient database with known health-care quality
indicators and develop quality initiatives.
