The use of RF thermal ablation is gaining increased popularity for the treatment of liver tumors. As a relatively new procedure there is not an extensive experience on the number of cases, type of tumors treated or outcome. For this reason we have established an international tumor registry for the evaluation of such patients. This will allow us to:

All patient information will be kept strictly confidential. We will update the web site with any information that becomes apparent through analysis of the database and with suggestions and comments from physicians using RFA in their practice.

Open communication between physicians using RFA will facilitate its development as a useful tool for local control of hepatic malignancies.

The first step to become a member of the Registry is to fill out the Registration Form. We will contact you and you will get a confirmed username and password. With the username and password you will be able to submit data to the registry via fax.

We have developed forms which contain relevant questions about patient and lesion data. You can print out these forms and use them during the ablation procedure and for follow up investigations. Afterwards you can fax a copy to us at (216) 445-7653 to be entered into the registry. Your username and password must be part of the fax submission in order for the data to be accepted.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the forms. Click here to download the free Acrobat Reader

Aside from clinical data collection we also prepared a Liver Tumor Ablation Quality of Life Study. We use the well-established SF-36 questionnaire to evaluate patient's subjective response to RFA.

The following links lead to detailed information about the tumor registry. This information is derived from our experience with the laparoscopic approach.

One goal of the Tumor Registry is to define standards for the procedure and the follow-up. Currently these details are not carved in stone and can be discussed and modified. Eventually a multicenter trial will be based on the modified details for applying radiofrequency ablation. For all further questions please contact the Registry coordinator or the Webmaster of the RFA site.
