Note: All benefit plans are coded according to your social security number. If you are an international graduate and do not have a social security number, you must apply for one before your start date at the Clinic.

Dental Insurance Return to Menu
Dental insurance is provided to clinical residents and clinical fellows, postdoctoral research fellows and research fellows as well as their eligible dependents after one year of service at no cost to you. The plan takes effect on the first of the month following your anniversary date. You have a choice of Preventive or Standard plans. You may purchase the dental plan during your first year at cost, which will be charged to you through payroll deduction. After one year of service, dental is paid by CCF.

Emergency Loan Return to Menu
Loans for up to $1,200.00 per year (interest free) are available to residents and fellows through the Graduate Medical Education Department.
Health Club Membership Return to Menu
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation provides a corporate membership for clinical residents and clinical fellows, postdoctoral research fellows and research fellows at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) located at 26001 South Woodland Rd., Beachwood, OH; phone (216)831-7000 for information and hours. The facilities include a swimming pool, exercise classes, gym, banked walking/running tracks, weight room, racquetball and squash courts. To utilize the facility, please take your CCF I.D. badge and identify yourself as a CCF resident. Note: This membership does not include family members.
Life Insurance Return to Menu
We offer a group life insurance policy for $25,000.00 after 30 days of employment.
Malpractice Insurance Return to Menu
The Clinic provides professional liability coverage for all house staff while working within the confines of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Teaching Programs. This includes outside rotations which are a part of your training program. Elective rotations outside of the Clinic are NOT covered by CCF insurance. Upon completion of your training program this coverage remains in effect for any litigation that may arise from incidents while you were in training. You do not have to purchase any "tail" coverage when you leave CCF.
Maternity/Paternity Leave Return to Menu
Six weeks paid leave are given for maternity (eight weeks for a C-section), time may have to be made up depending on board requirements. Two weeks (10 working days) paid paternity leave are offered to the male clinical residents and clinical fellows, postdoctoral research fellows and research fellows.
Medical Insurance Return to Menu
We offer a comprehensive health plan which covers clinical residents and clinical fellows, postdoctoral research fellows and research fellows as well as their immediate family members (spouse and eligible children) at no cost to you.
- No pre-existinig condition clause, there is 100% coverage at or through Primary care. No referral is needed for specialist office visits but the health plan only pays 80% of the allowed amount, your copay is 20%.
Pediatrics - same coverage, (well baby visits, shots, preschool physicals etc covered 100%)
- Obstetrics is covered 100% through the Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS). You may go to Gynecology once in a calendar year for the annual Wellness Visit (PAP test, etc.). And it is treated as a primary visit. Any other gynecological visits will have 80% coverage.
- Diagnostic care outside of the CCHS at a SuperMed Plus facility is 70% after a $500.00 deductible per person ($1, 500.00 maximum per family). At a non SuperMed Plus facility, coverage is only 50% UCR (usual and customary rate) of the eligible charges after the deductible. This includes Obstetrical care. There is no vision coverage outside of CCHS.
- Urgent care in an Emergency Room evenings and weekends is covered 100% after a $40.00 co-pay.
- Emergency care at any hospital is covered 100% after $40.00 co-pay.
In-patient hospital care is covered 100% at CCHS. If hospitalized outside of CCHS, you must get approval from the Health Plan Coordinators to receive full coverage.
- Prescription drugs are covered at 80% generic, 70% Preferred brand, 50% non-preferred brand and 80% high technology drugs with prior authorization. Minimum copay of $5.00 and maximum of $50.00 on generic and preferred brands. No minimum or maximum on non-preferred brands, and a $100.00 maximum on Hi-Tech drugs. Mail order prescriptions are available as well, for up to a 90 day supply of prescription drugs with a $15.00 minimum and $150.00 maximum. $300.00 maximum on Hi-Tech drugs.
- No charge for ophthalmology exams at CCF. 30% discount on glasses or contacts purchased at CCF.
On-Call Meals Return to Menu
Breakfast and dinner are paid for by CCF when you are on call in-house overnight. Lunches are also provided to residents on call over the weekend.

Travel Return to Menu
Clinical trainees at a PGY 3 and above receive one meeting per year with a maximum reimbursement of $1200.00. Postdoctoral research fellows and research fellows are provided with one meeting (for a maximum of $1000) in their 2nd or 3rd year at the Cleveland Clinic.
Uniforms Return to Menu
Lab coats are provided and laundered by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Vacation Return to Menu
Clinical residents and clinical fellows, postdoctoral research fellows, and research fellows receive three weeks (15 working days) vacation per academic year. In addition, residents and fellows in Clinical programs may be given two days to take the USMLE exam and up to five interview days during the appropriate year when applying for fellowship or practice positions.
