Jerrold L. Vitek, M.D., Ph.D.
Co-chairman,
Center for Neurological Restoration

Dr. Vitek joined The Cleveland Clinic in 2004 as the co-chairman for the Center for Neurological Restoration. He received his Ph.D. and M.D. from the University of Minnesota, which he followed up with a residency in Neurology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Subsequently, Dr. Vitek became an instructor for the department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and later he became a professor in the department of Neurology at Emory University School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Vitek holds positions as director for the Program for Functional and Stereotaxic Neurology with Emory University School of Medicine and he is a senior member of the Neurology Clinic Section of The Emory Clinic in Atlanta.

Dr. Vitek has earned many awards and honors throughout his career, including being named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, receiving a Clinical Investigator Development Award in 1996, and later being listed in "Who's Who Among Rising Young Americans" and "Who's Who in America." He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Neurology, Society for Neuroscience, the Movement Disorder Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Vitek has published numerous articles in peer review journals and he is a principal investigator in many publications. He has given over 100 lectures and presentations, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Vitek has published over 25 book chapters and edited a text, Surgical Treatment of Parkinson's Disease and Other Movement Disorders . He has received numerous grants including those from the National Institutes of Health, Medtronic Corporation, Emory University and the William F. Keck Foundation.

Dr. Vitek's clinical interests include movement disorders and evaluation for deep brain stimulation and his current research activities focus on Parkinson's disease, dystonia, tremor and deep brain stimulation.
