Ali R. Rezai, M.D.
Co-chairman
Center for Neurological Restoration

Dr. Rezai earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Southern California and performed neurosurgical training at New York University. Subsequently, he completed his subspecialty training at the University of Toronto and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Later, he joined the neurosurgical faculty at New York University Medical Center where he served as director of the Center for Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery at New York University School of Medicine until January 2000, then joining the faculty at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Rezai is board certified in neurosurgery.

Dr. Rezai is one of the leading functional neurosurgeons in the world and was among the first in the country to perform a highly promising neurosurgery procedure involving the use of a "pacemaker" for the brain.

Dr. Rezai has published over 70 scientific articles and over 20 book chapters. He serves on the editorial board of Neurosurgery Journal and several others and has edited a book on functional neurosurgery for the treatment of psychiatric disorders. Dr. Rezai has given over 200 lectures nationally and internationally, and has directed several symposia in functional neurosurgery. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Bottrell Neurosurgical Award, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Clinical Award, and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Investigator Award. Dr. Rezai is a member of the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Executive Board of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Section of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and Pain. He is the chief editor of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Web site.

Dr. Rezai holds several patents for surgical techniques and tools, and neuromodulation devices and methods.

Dr. Rezai was named one of the best doctors in America in Castle and Connolly's guide to America's Top Doctors for 2001-2004. He also has received the Achievement of the Year Award for Health and Medicine from Northern Ohio Live magazine.

Dr. Rezai's work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, US News&World Report , USA Today, MIT's Technology Review Magazine, Newsweek, the Washington Post, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He was recently featured in Crains ' "Who's Who in Biotech" and was listed as one of the "40 Under 40" in Crains .

Dr. Rezai has appeared on numerous local and national radio and television broadcasts including CBS' "60 Minutes," CNN, MSNBC and The Discovery Channel.
