Bioethics Course

In collaboration with the Department of Bioethics, this distance learning course is designed for middle and high school students to study some of today’s most prevalent issues in bioethics - euthanasia, patient access to unapproved drugs, stem cell research and environmental ethics. For each class, students will read articles on the topic beforehand, then participate in discussions facilitated by an instructor. Class may also include discussion of current events or popular media depictions of the day’s topic. Bioethics professionals conduct a short lecture covering the important aspects and moral issues of the topics followed by an interactive discussion. Students are required to read the assigned articles before each session. Quiz/test materials are available upon teacher request.

Additional required outside reading:

The following articles are required, but will not be discussed during class sessions. The purpose of these articles is to help students understand some of the issues that arise in medical research.
