Students will be considered for the program upon review of application and supporting materials. Short listed candidates will be invited for a personal interview. Students will be finally admitted based upon a combined evaluation of their application and interview performances.
NEOREMA Year One Student Criteria for Application:
Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for participation in NEOREMA Year One:
- Entering the 10th grade in the fall of the 2013-14 academic year;
- Must turn 15 years of age on or before June 1, 2013;
- Must belong to one of the following under-represented groups:
- American Indian or Alaskan Native, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander;
- Self-identified as underprivileged;
- First generation college student:
- Demonstrated aptitude for science or math and a strong interest in a healthcare career;
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale;
- No more than 5 absences or tardies in the last semester of the previous school year, documented on transcript or by guidance counselor recommendation form;
- Attitude scores of 4's and 5's only, documented on the transcript or by guidance recommendation form.
The following is desirable but NOT required:
- At least one (1) year participatory experience in science research or responsibility for science fair project design and research;
- Volunteer experience in a hospital, nursing home, community based program or activity (can be part of a school organization project).
Students must also commit to participating in ALL components of Year One programming:
- Program Orientation: Last week of May, 2013;
- Two weeks of summer programming:
- Week One: Day Program and Cleveland State University
Monday, June 17, 2013 through Friday, June 21, 2013
- Week Two: Day Program and the Cleveland Clinic and Cuyahoga Community College
Monday, June 24, 2013 through Friday, June 28, 2013
- Internship Graduation Event: Friday, August 2, 2013;
- Fall Activity: One Saturday in either September or October, 2013;
- Spring Curriculum: One Saturday per month, January through May, 2014.

- Must belong to one of the following under-represented groups:
- American Indian or Alaskan Native, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander;
- Self-identified as underprivileged;
- First generation college student;
- Demonstrated aptitude for science or math and a strong interest in a healthcare career;

- Self-identified as underprivileged;
- First generation college student;
- Demonstrated aptitude for science or math and a strong interest in a healthcare career;
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale;

- Spring Curriculum: One Saturday per month, January through May, 2014.
