Respiratory Therapy Internship Program

Respiratory Therapy Internship Program

The Respiratory Therapy Internship Program was designed to expand high school student's knowledge of science and medicine as it relates to the practice of respiratory care at Cleveland Clinic, its community hospitals and family health centers. This nine-week paid internship provides selected students who have an interest in this career field an opportunity to experience respiratory care at one of the leading academic medical centers in the country. Students will interact with respiratory therapists and patients in all types of patient care settings while working and learning about the many different types of respiratory therapy equipment. Students will observe therapists perform a variety of procedures such as medication (metered dose inhaler or small volume nebulizer), oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive) and other therapy maneuvers designed to optimize the delivery of respiratory care services to patients. Students will experience hands-on learning by working with respiratory therapists and equipment and receive individualized, structured mentorship about the respiratory care profession. These activities are designed to provide selected students who have an interest in the career field of Respiratory Therapy with individually structured, full-time, respiratory therapy-related learning experiences during the summer. Interns have garnered and accepted considerable scholarship awards at top universities and institutions such as Boston, Princeton, Case Western Reserve University and Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).
