Writer's Statement

My poem illustrates the ramifications of medical response time in cases of stroke. In this instance, an arbitrary character experiences a sudden onset of stroke-related symptoms and is able to react promptly. The outcome, however, is dependent upon the efficiency of Emergency Medical Services. This is demonstrated in two endings: one where the patient receives immediate attention, and an alternate ending, where the window of time for proper treatment is missed.
