Artist's Statement

My piece relates to Nora Yorko's research which asks if there's a relationship between nurses' uniform colors and children's emotions. After reading her research, I noticed this applies to adults as well. One of the colors that was presenting happiness to the children in her research was pink. My piece also relates to breast cancer awareness, which is represented by the color pink. I painted a picture of a young girl who had fought breast cancer. She is painted in grayscale and everything surrounding her is in color to make her the focal point of my work.
