Artist's Statement

My eXpressions™ project, Take a Breath, is based on Khin-Kyemon Aung's research on if there is an effect on the duration of ventilation in premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome depending on the time in which the surfactant was delivered. All pieces are placed together in a black shadow box that I made. The upper left contains a clock representing the time in which the surfactant is delivered. The upper right holds a transparency of a child with RDS mounted on frosted plastic with a fluorescent light behind it. On the lower half is a charcoal drawing of an infant.
