Writer's Statement

My poem shows the ability of music to remove patients from the reality of their pain. It can be a moment's distraction from their pain, which can do a great deal for someone who is suffering. My poem depicts the different kinds of "music" in the hospital: the annoying noises and sounds, as well as the soothing sounds of the music given by the nurse.
