Artist's Statement

In An Appetite for Health, I illustrated Quality Improvement in Pediatric Gastric Emptying Scintigraphy. The baby seen in the painting symbolizes the 575 children that were included in the database of the research. The baby is drinking from a bottle; this stands for the main objective which was to compare the normal gastric emptying values of water, juice, and milk/formula. The stomach seen behind the baby has the numbers -- 12 through 2 -- being digested. This represents the time studies of the research. The bright greens and yellows illustrate digestion and gastric acids.
