Artist's Statement

I used pop art to express the significance of the amount of time that has passed since the previous intake of food before the process of procedural sedation is allowed. To show stages of food deterioration through the stomach, I used three separate boards to separate the stages. I used a complementary color scheme in order to make the food in the stomach stand out and become the main focus. In order to make this a pop art expression, I painted the background black and used bold acrylic colors to paint the stomach so it would draw the viewers’ attention. To represent the importance of the relationship of time to procedural sedation, I used a built-in clock mechanism and attached fork and knife hands to it to show the time from the previous meal. To conclude my project, I enlarged the third and main board to show when the safest time of procedural sedation would be.
