Artist's Statement

My piece has a color scheme of red, yellow, and green. I chose the color scheme for my piece because when I think of red, I think stop. When I think yellow, I think caution. And when I see green, I think of go. I chose these colors because when your cholesterol is bad you want to "stop" your eating habits and consumption of saturated fats, and you want to start being "cautious" of your diet and the harm that your food consumption is doing to your body. Once you are aware of the harm the consumption is doing to your body, and the facts, you want to start a healthy diet and keep "going" with it. I chose to have a progressing EKG across the entire piece because as the color scheme is changing from red to green, the EKG is changing for the better as well. It is made out of facts and statements that deal with consumption and the effects it has on your body as a whole. The EKG is important because cholesterol has a huge effect on your heart and in turn, as your cholesterol improves, your heart rate does as well. The images of food that are transparently blended in with the color scheme are types of food that effect your cholesterol and heart rate when consumed. I chose to have them blend in the background because I wanted the words that make up the EKG to be focused in on and the images to be seen more as the reason for the EKG and cholesterol.
