Artist's Statement

This piece represents the obsession of insulin in the lives of diabetics. The people are blood, symbolizing blood shed in diabetics' lives from daily testing. Numbers on their foreheads represent blood sugar levels. The numbers are placed on their foreheads to signify their constant thought of their sugar levels. They also symbolize the feeling of being barcoded. There are numerous people, meaning that there are a lot of diabetics. Their faces are plain, meaning that diabetes can strike anyone. Above are syringes spraying insulin on them like rain, which represents healing and the constant bombardment of insulin in their daily lives.
